Words to Live By

"Yes! You know what it is, don't you boy? Shall I tell you? It's the least I can do. Steel isn't strong, boy, flesh is stronger! Look around you. There, on the rocks; that beautiful girl. Come to me, my child...

[Jump...squish]

That is strength, boy! That is power! The strength and power of flesh. What is steel compared to the hand that wields it? Look at the strength in your body, the desire in your heart. I gave you this! Such a waste. Contemplate this on the tree of woe. Crucify him."

i guess i'm one of the six, conan is one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies. . .right up there with the outlaw josey wales. . .james earl jones is so bored evil and arnold is gorgeous awful earnest (i played on the soundtrack and in the studio we called the project "gonad the bavarian") but all in all it's a fun way to kill a couple hours. glad you're enjoying writing again, i have gone through long periods of "through the motions" music and it just sucks.

My favorite Conan story: A colleague of mine knows what a fan I am of this film, for all sorts of reasons, not the least of which is its weird manly-man vibe. I dispatched said colleague to interview Oliver Stone, pegged to the Oliver Stone DVD Collection. He mentioned to Stone what a fan I am of this movie (one of Stone's first writing credits). A week later, a signed Conan script shows up in the mail.

Nice.

And I love that soundtrack. Seriously. One of my favorites. I must've been the only guy in the theater, when the first Gladiator trailer played, who shouted to his girlfriend (who didn't care) "That's the Poledouris! It's the Conan music!"

"What is best in life?!"

"To crush your enemies and to hear the lamentation of their women..."

I used to have that as my answering machine message.

Yeah, okay. I was young.
