Oh, Canada...

I'm in lovely downtown Toronto for the International Film Festival (or as the French Canadiens would probably have me say, un Festival du Film). And so far, since landing yesterday afternoon, I've seen 5 movies. While I can't say any of them were truly good, except maybe Paul Verhoeven's WWII boobfest Zwartboek (Black Book), they were all interesting in different ways.

And, yes, I have seen John Gulager's Project Greenlight opus, Feast. More about that one later...

Saying "Paul Verhoeven's boobfest" is redundant. You should know that.

Did you happen to catch The Fountain or Pan's Labyrinth? I've mostly been following along on Jim Emerson's blog, and I'm curious about second opinions.

I know...though one might think he'd refrain from the beaver shots in his "sensitive" WWII epic. But then he wouldn't be Verhoeven, would he?

I'm seeing The Fountain tonight, energy willing. And I've missed all the Pan's Labyrinth screenings up here, but I hope to catch it when I get back to civilization.
